| Dateline- APRIL 6TH, 2006 (Thomas Moore) It appears to be true that President Bush and the Republican party are floundering a little. And it is also true if this perception continues, they may well be in trouble in the upcoming mid-term elections. But this viewpoint ignores several important factors.
The first is that there still remains nearly 8 months for heaven knows what to occur, including a major turn around of public opinion, or some calamity. But this ignores a second important factor, that is that the major media outlets such as the TV networks, and large metropolitan newspapers tend to have a very negative slant when reporting, especially when it involves the President or almost any conservative. This too could be affected by some turn of events, or major political victory for the right.
Another factor very relevant to the election is the never ending fickleness of the American electorate.
But with the Democratic Party poised for some vicious revenge for the impeachment of Bill Clinton, If indeed, the Republicans accept and support any form of amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens that have stolen their way into this country, they may well find that those who once supported them so strongly are disgusted with their spinelessness, and they will likely find themselves out of a job!

Dateline- APRIL 6TH, 2006 (Mike Spenser) Sadly for the 2006 election, this nation finds itself embroiled in an extremely divisive debate over so many substantive issues, many of which will affect the election. Like adversarial combatants in an unhappy marriage, the left and the right can find almost no common ground upon which to build bipartisan consensus, with the American electorate caught in the middle. It seems that those on the far left have become shrill voices hurling accusations and pejoratives at any and every idea, action and personality on the other side of the isle. Meanwhile, the far right retreats into an aloof, hardened defensive posture, or counterattacks with shrill vitriol of it’s own. And where are the majority of Americans? In a large political hump right down the middle of the road. Most Americans are fairly mild in their politics, and somewhat moderate when it comes to issues like tax reform, entitlement spending, and even more controversial issues such as abortion.
So, if there is one prediction that can be made with confidence about this years all-important mid-term elections, it is that it will both decisive and derisive. With control of the Senate and the House of Representatives at stake, both |

Dateline-APRIL 6TH, 2006 (Nick Hamilton) It is with great relish that Democrats sit by and watch the Republican Party come apart. It is with unashamed glee that they see one time stalwarts like Tom Delay fall from power and President Bush stumble again and again over the growing ineptness of his own administration. One can almost taste their anticipation.
Democratic leaders such as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid,
The net result seems to be that their voices are being heard by a majority of It is highly likely, considering the low ratings of this president, that there will be a concentrated effort by the left to nationalize these elections. Considering the tone of the debate and the continuing tendency of the White House to shoot itself in the foot (no pun intended, Mr. Cheney), they will likely be quite successful. Their theme seems to be- "Give us back the power, and we will get this mess we are in cleaned up." Given the current sour mood of the electorate, this theme will likely carry a lot of weight. Possibly enough to sweep the Republicans from power.
Happily anticipating an electoral avalanche unprecedented since the Republicans swept the field in 1994, hopeful Democrats smell Republican blood in the water. Not unrealistically, they expect to sweep away their political opponents, and take one if not both houses of Congress. |
